In Praise of Athlete Foundation

Alyn and Deeside MP has praised the work of a Deeside sports foundation that helps top-flight sports people and individuals with limited mobility.
The Athlete Performance Foundation at Queensferry Industrial Estate in Sandycroft opened its doors to Mr Tami for a preview of the training that takes places.
The Foundation has applied for Charity Status given its work across the mobility spectrum, which Mr Tami has praised.
He said: “The gym is simply the best equipped facility of its type that I have seen.
“Alongside this is Mark Lewin, the sports coach who has trained some of our best sports men and women, including top ice skaters and weightlifters.
“The gym is also ideal for people with limited mobility, as well as offering outstanding strength and cardio circuit training.
“It was a pleasure to spend time at the gym, which is a real gem of a sports facility. I hadn’t previously known about its existence, but would encourage anyone wishing to train, get fit or improve their specific sporting techniques to visit it.”
Mr Tami has written to the Charities Commission, endorsing the application for Charity Status. He is also encouraging local businesses to see if the Athlete Performance Foundation can offer assistance in improving the health, fitness and welfare of employees.
He added: “In the great mould of Lever Brothers, Rowntree and Cadbury, responsible employers would do well to look at linking their businesses to the Foundation to help employees.”

MP Gets Assurance Over Higher Kinnerton Speeding

Alyn and Deeside MP Mark Tami has secured assurance that efforts will be made to reduce speeding through the village of Higher Kinnerton.
In recent months Mr Tami has been campaigning for better speed enforcement, parking and improved road surfaces for Higher Kinnerton.
He has been assured that the village will now be considered for speed activated signs in an attempt to slow motorists.
He said: “I am pleased that Higher Kinnerton will be considered for speed activated warning signs because there is a clear need to slow traffic through the village.
“I am awaiting a response to my appeal for improved road surfaces through the village as the last winter caused considerable damage.
“I am also making enquiries about the future of the Warren Hall development and whether people living in homes near the current road works are entitled to compensation.”

MP Welcomes Huge Plane Order

Alyn and Deeside MP Mark Tami has welcomed news of a massive £6 billion order for Airbus aeroplanes.
The order came from Cathay Pacific, for a total of 30 A350-900 aircraft.
Wings for the planes will be built at Broughton and Cathay Pacific described the deal with Airbus as forming the back-bone of their medium-sized aircraft family.
Mr Tami said: “This is outstanding news for the Broughton workforce and for Airbus.
“It will boost the workload for skilled men and women, while also ensuring Airbus remains at the top of the world’s aircraft manufacturing league.”

MP Backs Clamp Down on Ticket Touts

The resale of tickets for sporting and cultural events at sky high prices could become a thing of the past thanks to a new Bill making its way through Parliament.
Local MP Mark Tami has thrown his backing behind the ‘ticket touting’ Bill, which is being promoted by North East MP Sharon Hodgson.
The rapid rise of online ticket sales for most major gigs and sporting events has lead to the creation of a huge market for secondary tickets with some specialist organisations offering front row seats for hundreds of pounds a time. The new Bill will seek to prevent the organised resale of tickets for profit by stopping anybody from selling tickets greatly above face value.
It is hoped that these measures will encourage the further growth of popular regulated ticket exchange websites where fans can swap or sell tickets to each other at face value and ensure that everybody has an equal chance of getting to the gig or game of their dreams.
Mr Tami said: "I know youngsters in my constituency who save up their wages for weeks on end in order to be able to afford tickets to see big acts.
"We need to make sure that it is the genuine fans who are getting hold of tickets as well as making sure that all of the profits from such events find their way back to the artists or sports involved – not the back pocket of an online rogue trader who simply uses them to buy more tickets for more events and hike up prices even further.
"Families in my constituency save up for months to be able to afford to see their heroes live and I want to give them back a fair shot at getting hold of tickets by stopping people snapping them all up on the day they go on sale and then selling them on for a small fortune."

Mark Calls for End to Daylight Robbery

Alyn and Deeside MP Mark Tami is backing calls for the Prime Minister to help cut carbon emissions by switching Britain’s time zones.
Mr Tami is supporting the latest campaign by lobby group 10:10 to switch Britain’s summer time to GMT+2, which would see daylight remain until after 11pm during mid-summer.
In the winter a switch to GMT+1 would also offer lighter evenings.
He said: “The 10:10 campaign predicts such a change could help generate 80,000 new jobs in the leisure industry and save half a million tonnes of carbon dioxide each year.
“The value to the economy could be as much as £3.5 billion and people with Seasonal Affective Disorder would be benefit considerably from increased daylight.
“To begin with we could switch to GMT+1 in the summer and assess its success, with an abolition of the switch in winter months.
“The time has come to save daylight, not just for economic and health reasons, but also to help the environment.
“I hope David Cameron will give this serious attention and join the growing number of people who agree Britain needs to review summer and winter times.”

MP Urges Cut in Speed Limit

Alyn and Deeside MP Mark Tami is urging Flintshire County Council to reduce the speed limit on a busy Deeside road.
Mr Tami said the speed limit on Gladstone Way in Hawarden should be 30mph along the entire stretch. At present the 30mph expires at Daleside Nurseries, where it rises to the national limit.
Mr Tami said: “The sudden change from 30 to 60mph leads many motorists to accelerate hard outside Daleside Nurseries. By the time they pass the residential area near the Queensferry roundabout they can be travelling at dangerous speeds.
“Residents have called for the entire stretch of Gladstone Way to be a consistent 30mph to improve pedestrian and driving safety.”
"Likewise, nearby the residents of Cross Tree Lane have called for better traffic enforcement, particularly at school dropping off and collecting times. It has become extremely difficult for residents to gain access to their homes at certain times because of the volume of parked vehicles.
"I have written to the County Council, asking for appropriate measures to be taken to help police enforce traffic restrictions."
