Mark Tami MP has backed the Department for Education and Skills Dads & Sons campaign to increase parental involvement in children’s education, and to raise boys’ achievement levels. The campaign is aimed at fathers of sons aged 11-14 years and is supported by a ‘hints and tips’ booklet.

The Alyn & Deeside MP commented, “As a father of two sons, I am aware of how important it is to spend quality time with your children and how work commitments often make this difficult. Dads have a unique bond with their sons, and can make a real difference to what they achieve at school.

Research shows that three quarters of Dads want to be more involved with their sons’ learning, and with over a million copies of our first Dads & Sons leaflet since February, it is clear that many dads are welcoming this support. We need to harness this enthusiasm in order to raise the confidence and achievement levels of secondary school age boys.”

One million copies of a hints and tips booklet have been produced. These will be made a vailable free of charge through branches of Asda, PC World, Comet, Burger King, Megabowl, Warner Village Cinemas, and Citizen Advice Bureau. Mr Tami is also in possession of a small number of copies, which constituents can get by ringing 01244 819854 or e-mailing [email protected].
