Mark Tami MP supports Trussell Trust and FareShare volunteers at Tesco Broughton

Trussell Trust and Tesco have worked together over the past six years and have assisted over a million individuals who have faced crisis over that period.

In addition to the Permanent Collection Points in hundreds of Tesco stores, and ad-hoc collections at stores throughout the year, Trussell Trust and the hunger charity, FareShare, also work with Tesco on an annual Food Collection in the run-up to Christmas.

This provides much-needed food and funds for local foodbanks at a critical time of year. The Food Collection is great fun for volunteers and Tesco employees alike, and since its inception in 2012, Tesco customers have donated more than 49 million meals.

Mark Tami MP today visited the collection point at Tesco Broughton and said

“It was really great to get the opportunity to meet the fantastic volunteers who are giving their time to such a worthwhile cause. I support this initiative/partnership every year as I know how much the collection benefits so many people.

“The amount of people who rely on foodbanks is a national scandal that we as politicians need to address. I have donated today but this does not even scratch the surface of what needs to be done.

“Well done to everyone involved in all the participating Tesco’s across the county who are making Christmas that little bit easier for those in need.”
