Mark Tami MP arranges to meet with Streetscene tomorrow to discuss school transport issues

The issues with school transport this week have been well documented as a number of kids have experienced difficulties getting to and from school.

Mark Tami MP’s office received a number of complaints from concerned constituents who had not been given the appropriate information on how their children were getting to school.

The majority of issues were regarding ex- John Summers pupils getting to Connah’s Quay High, and students from out of the immediate catchment area going to Mold Alun or Maes Garmon.

Mark Tami has arranged a meeting for tomorrow with Mr Steve Jones who is the Chief Officer of Streetscene – the department responsible for school transport – and also the Cabinet Secretary of the department, Cllr Carolyn Thomas, to discuss what has gone wrong this week and ways to resolve the issues.

Mark Tami said “A number of people have been in touch with my office raising their concerns about their children getting to school. I know there are always some issues around this time of the year put the sheer amount of issues that have been raised this year is very concerning.

“I know there have been some unforeseen circumstances that have contributed to the unprecedented amount of issues and I am well aware Streetscene have been working around the clock to resolve them.

“I feel a meeting is needed however so we can get to the bottom of what has gone wrong this week, to see what more could have been done and to ensure that the issues are being resolved – if they haven’t already been. It’s obvious that lessons need to be learnt.”
