Mark Tami MP welcomes investment in Alyn and Deeside’s railway infrastructure

Welsh Government’s Cabinet Secretary for Economy and Infrastructure, Ken Skates, has today unveiled ambitious plans to improve railway infrastructure across Wales.

Welsh Government took into consideration 47 potential sites for new stations and 12 have been taken forward to the second stage. Amongst the 12 will be Deeside Industrial Estate/Northern Gateway.

Local MP, Mark Tami, has long pushed for improvements to be made to the infrastructure in this area and has welcomed this announcement.

Mark Tami said; “This is great news for Alyn and Deeside as it will be yet another incentive for businesses to come to the area.

“The local economy has been growing and growing in recent years and it is imperative that the capability of the infrastructure grows with it.

“Whether it’s broadband speed or railway access, it is essential that we provide businesses with the best platform for them to perform.”

Ken Skates, who also announced that new station sites in North Wrexham, South Wrexham and Llangefni have also reached the second stage of the proposal, sees this as a “game changing boost” for cross-border connections.

Ken Skates said; “I’m pleased to be making this announcement as it shows Welsh Government are committed to improving the railway infrastructure across Wales, particularly in North Wales. This is a major step forward in building the North East Wales Metro and offers a game changing boost to cross-border transport infrastructure”

The stage two assessment will look in more detail at the strength of the financial and economic case for each railway station before budgets are allocated.

Mark continued; “I understand that costs are now being determined. I will continue to monitor the situation closely and I will look forward to details of delivery timescales.”
