Mark Tami MP visits local organic farm

copjouse-3Mark Tami MP met up with local organic farmer, David Edge, on his farm in Saltney Ferry last week to have a tour of the premises.

Mr Edge’s farm is one of 25 family organic Welsh farms that produces milk for Calon Wen. The farm, situated on the Saltney Ferry end of the B5129, has over 250 cows that produce up to 5000 litres of organic milk every day.

Mark Tami said; “It was really nice of David to show me around his farm. It was great to get an insight into the work that goes on there.cophouse-2

“The amount of money and time that David has invested in these facilities is extraordinary, the maintenance of the farm seems a never ending job that he says wouldn’t be possible without grants.

“British farming receives billions of pounds in EU subsidies and it must be protected in the wake of the referendum result, the uncertainty at the moment is making financial planning incredibly hard for farmers.

“It was however brilliant to see how David was not letting uncertainty effect the day to day running of his farm”.

David Edge said; “It was great to get Mark here, I was able to ask him about some of the fears that farmers are facing. Hopefully Mark has seen the benefits of my grass based way to produce pure and simple dairy products, sold by Calon Wen”
