Bright Future for Firm Celebrating 40 Years

A DEESIDE engineering firm celebrating its 40th anniversary has a bright future ahead.

Politicians, clients, suppliers and staff of a DRB Group came together on Friday at its Deeside Industrial Park base to mark the occasion.

Speaking at the event, Alyn and Deeside MP Mark Tami said:

“It’s a constantly changing world, but manufacturing is still at the heart of this area and DRB is all about keeping manufacturing going, not just for 40 years but for another 40 years to come.”

DRB Group provides engineering services to some of the UK’s leading manufacturing companies and was originally founded in Chester by Dave Bennett in 1976. It moved to Deeside in 1984 and is now owned by Dave’s son Matt Bennett and employs 140 multi-skilled staff.

Eighty per cent of the company’s business is generated from North Wales and the North West of England, with most of it from within a 20 mile radius.

Apprentices, including mature apprentices, make up 10 per cent of DRB Group’s resources, and investment in people continues throughout their careers. The firm hands out Breitling watches for 25 years’ service and has so far given away 28.

Matt Bennett said that the key to the firm’s success is recognising challenges faced by the area’s manufacturers and providing them with high quality engineering solutions.

Mr Tami was given a full tour of the site and saw several projects being undertaken for clients in the food manufacturing, chemical and railway industries.

The company thanked the Welsh Government and Flintshire Council for their support and said it has exciting plans to grow in the food and beverage, rail and transport, nuclear, automotive and process industries.

Customers, suppliers, members of the business community, Mr Tami, Lord Barry Jones, Flintshire Council chairman Cllr Peter Curtis and other guests received a tour and celebrated with a buffet.

A presentation of £3,000 was made by DRB Group to Hope House children’s hospices, the good cause being supported by DRB Group in 2016.
