Coffee and Chat to Celebrate Carers Week

Officials and carers from more than 10 organisations across the county will be at the Carers Coffee and Chat event hosted by Alyn and Deeside AM and MP Carl Sargeant and Mark Tami on Friday, June 12.

Held at Connah’s Quay Civic Hall on Wepre Drive between 2-4pm, the event will be an opportunity to relax and chat over a coffee or tea, to discuss any issues carers may have or information they may need with Carl, Mark and their partners.

Every day 6,000 people in the UK will start looking after someone close to them, unpaid, because of disability, frailty, chronic illness, mental health issues or substance addiction. In Wales there are 370,230 carers, 11,000 of which are children. Across the UK one in ten people are carers and the economic value of carers’ contribution is £119bn a year.

Carl Sargeant AM said, “Every day carers in Flintshire are doing a wonderful, unpaid and under-appreciated job for society. We hope carers attending this event will benefit from meeting others in the same situation and finding out about groups that are available to support them.

“Mark Tami and I would also like to hear about any problems carers may be encountering and what we can do to help.”

Mark Tami MP added: “Carer’s are, of course, welcome to bring along the person that they care for. I hope that this will be an excellent opportunity for carers to meet different organisations and learn about the work that they do over a cup of tea or coffee and we are looking forward to meeting everyone.”

Representatives and carers from the following groups will be in attendance: Motor Neurone Disease Association Flintshire, Advocacy Services North East Wales, Hafal, Flintshire Community Safety Partnership, Alzheimer’s Society, North East Wales Carers Information Service, DAFFODILS, Flintshire Young Carers, Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board, Connah’s Quay Town Council and Butterflies After Stroke Club.

Carers can just turn up on the day or for more information contact Laura Edwards at Carl Sargeant’s office on 01244 823547.
