Mark Tami MP Votes Against Fixed Odds Betting Terminals

On Tuesday Mark Tami MP voted against proposals to retain the maximum stakes and prizes for gaming machines, or so-called Fixed Odds Betting Terminals (FOBTs).

Mark Tami MP said, ‘I voted against the Government’s proposals on Tuesday because these machines are causing major problems in our high streets. They are high-stake machines which allow players to gamble up to £100 every 20 seconds and I believe the Government has a responsibility to act on this issue’

There is growing evidence that FOBTs – which have a maximum stake of £100 and a maximum payout of £500 – are being located close to areas of deprivation and that they make a disproportionate amount of their profits from people with gambling problems.
