Mark Tami MP becomes one of the first to use NFC-enabled smartphone technology

Mark Tami MP became one of the first in the UK to use Near Field Communication (NFC) technology to make a charity donation using a smartphone – in his case, to make a donation to Macmillan Cancer Support.

NFC technology is a key part of the future for payments in the UK, with only a handful, to date, having had the opportunity to use the technology through a handheld device. To make this a part of consumers’ every-day lives, the card payments industry is working towards a world where payments by plastic card are complemented by the option to pay via NFC through a smartphone.

At the event in Parliament, organised by The UK Cards Association, Alyn & Deeside also had the opportunity to learn about credit card usage in Alyn & Deeside.

Mark Tami MP said: ‘It is fascinating to see advancing technology and how smartphones can be used to make payments. The UK is a very generous nation with many people fundraising for different causes and now with this new technology donating couldn’t be easier’
