Mark Tami MP presents petition to save local playing fields.

Alyn & Deeside MP Mark Tami has today, 12th February, presented a petition to Parliament to save the local playing fields in Higher Kinnerton from development. The Higher Kinnerton Community Council is currently in a drawn out battle over the fields with Flintshire County Council.

The Community Council wish to sign a long term lease over for the fields  with a covenant that protects the fields from development in the future and keep it as a village green that can be enjoyed by the whole community.

After presenting the petition to Parliament Mark Tami said, “I think this uncertainty has gone on for far too long. The playing fields are a valuable resource that need to be protected for the local community.”

Concern over the protection of these playing fields grew when they were not granted protection under the Queen Elizabeth II Fields in Trust Challenge due to Flintshire County Council refusing their nomination due to ‘long term residential development protection.’

The petition which was read out in Parliament called on the Government to secure protected status for the Main Road Recreation Ground.
