Alyn and Deeside MP Mark Tami is calling on supermarkets to provide red poppies to staff to recognise Remembrance Sunday.
Mr Tami said supermarkets regularly offer free decorations to staff, particularly during the Christmas and Halloween periods.
He added that it would be a mark of respect for veterans to offer complimentary red poppies to shopworkers.
“The stores could make a collective donation on behalf of staff and then distribute red poppies to shelf stackers and check-out workers,” he said.
“We see staff dressed for the festival period and in themed outfits for Halloween and Easter, so it makes sense to help boost the significance of November 11 by distributing red poppies.
“It would also help to raise more money for good causes, particularly during this difficult period.”

Leading Britain Through a Global Crisis
Mark has welcomed the action taken by the government to limit the impact of the global financial crisis on the UK.
He said: “Analysts and commentators of all political persuasions agree the Prime Minister and Chancellor have taken the initiative in this global crisis.
“Their swift, decisive and bold actions will stand Britain in a far better position than most other market economies.
“The banking package announced this week follows the rescue of Bradford & Bingley and Northern Rock.
“Had any other party been in power at this moment in time those banks would have gone to the wall and the crisis in Britain would have been far worse.”

Christmas Competition Under Way
Alyn and Deeside MP Mark Tami and AM Carl Sargeant have launched a competition to find a design for their 2008 Christmas card.
This year’s competition will be open to all primary, infant, junior and special school children in the constituency.
More than 1,000 children took part last year and this year the Flintshire politicians are hoping even more will.
Mr Tami said: “The hunt is on for the best design that our school children can create.
“Local businesses are backing the competition and I am looking forward to seeing the entries come in.
“Among the people who will receive the card are the Prime Minister Gordon Brown and Welsh First Minister Rhodri Morgan.”
Mr Sargeant added: “The prize-giving ceremony will be held in early December and I have my fingers crossed that the standard of entries will be higher than ever.
“Every year we are amazed by the imagination shown by Flintshire schoolchildren and I know 2008 will be no exception.”
