A better deal for everyone

Mark Tami has welcomed the Pre-Budget Report as a massive help for people and businesses during the global financial crisis.

Mark said every household in Flintshire would benefit from tax cuts and increases in credits as a result of the Pre-Budget report.

He said: “The Tories sit on their hands or bury their hands in the sand when tough times arrive, but Labour is treating the global crisis with the decisive action it requires.

“We are delivering billions of pounds in help to businesses and target financial help at low and middle income families, as well as to pensioners. And while the Tories said homeowners should be stripped of protective regulations, Labour is rolling out measures to protect families from repossession.”

For Alyn and Deeside the Government will increase Pension Credits for 3,450 elderly people, as well as hand cash gifts of £60 to all pensioners from January 2009, on top of the £10 Christmas bonus. In addition, 10,285 families will benefit from increases in Child Benefit from January, with a £20 weekly rise for the first child and a £13.20 rise for every other child. This will help 18,005 children in Alyn and Deeside.

On top of this help, 8,700 families in receipt of Child Tax Credits will see a £25 increase brought forward to January. Cutting VAT to 15% will result in an annual saving per household of £275 in the coming year, while bringing forward public spending plans could release £140m for Welsh projects.

Mr Tami added: “I am also delighted that proposed changes to road tax are being postponed. This will save many families hundreds of pounds.

“The Government is delivering most to the people who need the greatest help, but every person in Alyn and Deeside will benefit significantly from this excellent package of support.”
