Mark presses supermarkets over poppies

Alyn and Deeside MP Mark Tami is calling on supermarkets to provide red poppies to staff to recognise Remembrance Sunday.

Mr Tami said supermarkets regularly offer free decorations to staff, particularly during the Christmas and Halloween periods.

He added that it would be a mark of respect for veterans to offer complimentary red poppies to shopworkers.

“The stores could make a collective donation on behalf of staff and then distribute red poppies to shelf stackers and check-out workers,” he said.

“We see staff dressed for the festival period and in themed outfits for Halloween and Easter, so it makes sense to help boost the significance of November 11 by distributing red poppies. It would also help to raise more money for good causes, particularly during this difficult period.”
