Clear concern for hidden speed cameras

Mark Tami MP has joined a group of MPs to support a Parliamentary motion expressing concern at demands to replace high visibility cameras on our roads with more obscure cameras, given that the prime purpose of cameras is to slow drivers down as opposed to catching speeding motorists in order to raise revenue.

The Alyn & Deeside MP commented, “Speed cameras play an important role in reducing the speed of traffic and improving road safety. However, recent studies have shown that automated signs warning speeding drivers to slow down are more effective than speed cameras in improving road safety.

I call on the Government to ensure that all speed cameras are well signed and highly visible in addition to extending automated warning signs so that accidents caused through speeding are reduced.”
