Ministerial Visit to Sealand

Home Office Minister Bob Ainsworth visited Sealand to see how the Deeside community is uniting to crack crime.

Mr Ainsworth accepted an invitation from Alyn and Deeside MP Mark Tami to meet youth workers and community leaders in Garden City, where he discussed ways the community has come to terms with crime and anti social behaviour.

The Minister also saw the new skate park in Garden City, which residents believe has been instrumental in reducing anti social behaviour.

Mr Tami said: “I am very pleased that the Minister came to Sealand to see for himself the imaginative ways residents are tackling crime and anti social behaviour.

“Garden City has had problems with vandalism, but the community is determined to fight back and all agencies, including Neighbourhood Watch and Flintshire Youth Action, are uniting behind a campaign to improve the area.”

Prospective Welsh Assembly candidate Carl Sargeant, who also be met with Mr Ainsworth, said: “There are many activities and projects under way in Garden City that will help improve the community.

“Youngsters are at the very centre of efforts to lift the area and I am delighted a Government Minister will learn about what the residents are ding.”

Local councillor Christine Jones added: “We are all pleased the Minister took the time to see what we are trying to achieve here. His visit provided a valuable boost in morale for all those who are active in improving Sealand.”
