After the recent racist abuse of Emile Heskey and Ashley Cole in Slovakia, UEFA should mount a vigorous and sustained anti-racist campaign throughout Europe, says Alyn & Deeside MP Mark Tami.

Mr Tami has added his name to two House of Commons motions, one condemning the racist abuse in Slovakia, the other supporting the aims of the ‘Kick it out’ campaign against racism in football.

The football following MP said, “I deplore the fact that black players are subjected to vile racist abuse both in Britain and Europe and I join many of my parliamentary colleagues in calling upon the relevant governing bodies to suspend those clubs that fail to act decisively against racist behaviour.

There is a strong feeling that UEFA should take a firm stand against racism, beginning with a ban on Slovakian fans from traveling to the return match in England in 2003.”
